How best to handle your resignation

Tendering your resignation can be quite daunting and needs to be handles sensitively and professionally.

A resignation letter is usually the most appropriate method, presented to your immediate line manager.

Prior to writing your resignation letter, check your emloyment contract in regards to notice period and restrictions of trade. If unsure about any aspects of your contract, speak to an F10 representative, who can clarify any areas for you through the legal team at the REC.

It is advised that you do not disclose who and where you will be working at this stage, but a reference to the industry sector should suffice.

The resignation letter should offer:

·    A statement of regret, that you wish to terminate your contract

·    A notification of your last working day (you may request an early departure date, if your new employer has requested it)

·    A brief indication of why you are leaving (bigger opportunity, new challenge, something that you have always wanted to do etc)

·    A statement of thanks for the opportunity that they provided you with.

·    Wish them good luck for the future and request that they accept your decision.
