Position: Hardware Team Leader (0325)
Location:Middlesex

My client provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.

Job Purpose:
Providing team leadership to the hardware team, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality of both internal and external customers.

Scope / dimensions:
Leading a team of up to 5 Hardware Engineers, this person will be looking after multiple projects at a time; developing project plans and providing hands-on design work as required.

Key Responsibilities:
lDevelop project plans, monitor progress against these and liaise with Engineering Project leads and Project Managers
lEnsure that all work within their function is of sufficient quality and is carried out according to the correct process
lReview and sign-off significant technical documents; chair technical reviews
lExplain technically complex concepts clearly
lDefine and improve processes, practices, methodologies and tools for their function; ensuring that these are rolled-out effectively
lAttend all design reviews and supports the chair by raising issues and proposing solutions
lWork with Mechanical, ECAD, and Environmental teams to ensure designs meet the requirements
lSupport Bids and Proposals and PV activities by providing high quality technical input to define a solution to the appropriate level, review technical proposals, and provide estimates for the associated costs and risks which are cognisant and supportive of the competitive nature of our work
lProvide line management to all employees within their function (i.e. conducts appraisals, career development discussions, provides input to salary review)
lAssist with recruitment (permanent and contract) by participating in interviews and selection
lManage security of information as defined in the Security manual

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
lProject planning using MS Project
lHardware projecting leading and mentoring and coaching engineers
lAnalysis of product requirements to contribute to concept designs and feasibility
lAppreciation of designs methods to meet EMC and TEMPEST requirements
lAbility to review documents and drawings to ensure clear communication of key parameters
lBackground in hardware design and experience of using tools for schematic capture and test equipment such as spectrum analysers, EMC receivers, vector network analysers
lUnderstanding electronic assembly failure modes and investigatory techniques

Qualifications:
lDegree or equivalent. Proven experience in Hardware Engineering and team leadership
lAbility to obtain SC Clearance
